What if you don't have the space for a solar collector or a system of lenses? We have a simple answer- diffuse array systems. Imagine many mirrors placed all over a piece of property, but all of them direct their light to one specific target. it might be a water heating tank located at a remote point, like your pool house.
Now you can place mirrors here and there, not in one location, and each mirror will contribute some portion of the sunlight. A diffuse array is also shadow-resistant, since it is very unlikely that all the mirrors will be blocked at one time. You can place mirrors anywhere you like, and have each one aimed at the same point. No large mirror systems to occupy your rooftop or cause problems with home owners associations.

20 mirrors of about 2 square feet each will deliver almost 4 kilowatts to that solar water heater or even your living room. You can heat a building that has no power in it by directing the mirrors at it! Heat the playhouse for the kids without electrical wiring. |
